Hesheng (Jing Jing) @ Sea Point

Very Chinese Menu

But not to worry, they have a photos on display. Can't go wrong now.

Authentic Chinese tea pot

My personal favourite - beef roll

What they are famous for - steamed bun (be careful not to burn your lips)

Hesheng is suited in this dodgy looking corner in Sea Point but please do not be fooled by its look - they have the most authentic dumplings in Cape Town. I kid you not. It is where the Chinese people go.

Before having photo menu on the wall, they had the menu in Chinese writing all over the wall. Just like your next door noodle place in Asia. The owner does not speak much English but they are very friendly so just point at the photo of dishes you want. You will get a good surprise.

One thing to note, they do not accept cards. Cash only. 7.5/10

Wedding Dinner @ Asara, Stellenbosch

Theme flower - beautiful red tulips

Dinner Menu with a hint of Chinese design element (Bride is half Chinese & groom is from Hong Kong)

Starter - Caprese salad with tomatoes

Main - beef fillet with mash

Dessert - mini platter

We were lucky enough to attend this beautiful wedding at Asara in Stellenbosch on a warm summer's day. Oh it was warm I tell you, hot enough to get offered umbrellas for the ceremony! The heat didn't kill our fun though as weddings are such joyful event to be at. The celebration always feels so personal to me and to be able to share the joy is a wonderful thing. It was a beautiful wedding and lots of fun.

What is the most important element of a wedding? If you ask the bride - she may say the dress, the decor, the table setting and the cake? For some of the people - the question would be is there an open bar? If you ask a plus one on the night like myself, food may have a bigger role.

Starter - Caprese Salad with roasted vine tomatoes and baby mozzarella
I had no idea what I was eating to be honest until I read the menu but it was yum! We will try make it and if it looks presentable we can post on here ;)

Main - Beef fillet with mash
No expert on steak so I thought it wasn't bad. Others thought it was alright. This was a classic, nothing less and nothing more.

Dessert - Mini platter
Dessert is where my heart belongs as always. Love the fact that we got to try a few different dessert in one serving.

Venezia Ice Cream @ Sea Point

Good tasting since 1954!

Where the magic happens

Reasonable price with..

HUGE PORTION!

How can I begin to explain my love to ice cream? It is simply one of things a girl like me cannot live without. Even with a full tummy, I can always eat ice cream. When I got my heart broken, it was the tub of ice cream got me through that weekend. So when I heard Venezia have the best ice cream in Cape Town, we had to make a stop.

This cosy little shop is by Sea Point Main Road, loved the the locals. The wall proudly displayed est. 1954 with pride and homey feel to it. The flavours include the classic chocolate, strawberry & many others. We had mango and caramel crunch with sugar cone. Loved it.

Mike's Kitchen @ Milnerton

CHICKEN STRIPS WITH SWEET CHILLI

PERI-PERI GRILLED CHICKEN

BANGER AND MASH WITH GRAVY

I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING AS TO WRITE THIS POST OR NOT, BECAUSE THIS IS A FRANCHISE, HENCE THEIR FOODS ARE PRETTY MUCH STANDARDIZED.

BUT SOME PEOPLE MIGHT HAVE NEVER STEPPED INTO ANY OF THEM.

SO HERE IT IS.

THIS ONE MIKE'S KITCHEN BY CENTRE COURT IN MILNERTON IS QUITE TRENDY, YOU WILL SEE QUITE SOME VINTAGE STUFF, LIKE OLD CASHIER ETC.
ALSO A FAMILY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT, THEY HAVE A KIDS PLAYGROUND ON THE LEFT AS YOU WALK IN, WHICH CONSIST OF A JUMPING CASTLE, (OR WAS IT A TRAMPOLINE?), TO BE HONEST I THINK IT IS BETTER THAN MCDONALDS'

FOOD WISE, WE ORDERED A STARTER OF CHICKEN STRIPS WITH SWEET CHILLI SAUCE, NOTHING EXCITING, TYPICAL.
ON TO ON-TRACE, PERI-PERI GRILLED CHICKEN + BANGER AND MASH.
AGAIN NOTHING TOO EXCITING, CHICKEN A BIT DRY.
IF YOU JUST WANT SOMETHING TO FILL YOUR TUMMY, ECONOMICAL OPTION WILL BE THE BANGER AND MASH, FILLING AND THE FLAVOR IS NOT TOO BAD EITHER.

SIDE NOTE: THEY CAN GO ON AND ON WITH THE BIRTHDAY SONG, THERE WAS TWO BIRTHDAY TABLES AND THEY SANG THE SONG AGAIN RIGHT AFTER THE FIRST TABLE.  THEIR BIRTHDAY ANTHEM SONG BY THE STAFF IS AMAZING! SOUNDED LIKE ANTHEM, ALSO SOUNDED LIKE THEY ARE SHOUTING AT YOU AT SOME POINT. LOL BUT IT'S DEFINITELY BETTER THAN SPUR'S ONE. HAVE A GO.

Instant Glass Noodle!

Like many people, when I don't bring lunch to work, I would have a packet of instant noodle. Usually instant noodle from a Chinese Shop, they have more flavors than the ones from Spar/PnP.

This is what I found the other day in Live Mart, the Taiwanese food store in Tygervalley - instant glass noodle! I have always loved glass noodle for its texture and low on carbs so did not hesitate to try. It was yummy, smelled a little different due to the spice cabbage but once I started eating the smell was gone.
Made the noodle super soupy (that is how I like it) & the look of glass noodle got a lot of colleagues curious. So here is a little piece of knowledge (Wiki):

Cellophane noodles (also known as Chinese vermicelli, bean threads, bean thread noodles, crystal noodles, or glass noodles) are a type of transparent noodle made from starch and water.

They are generally sold in dried form, boiled to reconstitute, then used in soups, stir fried dishes, or spring rolls. They are called "cellophane noodles" or "glass noodles" because of their appearance when cooked, resembling cellophane, a clear material or a translucent light gray or brownish-gray color.

If you want to try glass noodle, it is available at places like Simply Asia.. Even with instant noodle, you can have a slimmer option.

Potter's Garden @ Kleinmond

Casual Dining ‧ Potter's Garden

What is available today

Chicken Pie & Rice

Smoked Salmon Salad

View on the side

We actually found this place from the GPS! On a Sunday we drove towards Betty's Bay, wanting to go to Harold Potter Botanical Garden. We got hungry around lunch time and had no idea where to do so I picked this place from the GPS.

What a cute place with colourful table setting under a sunny day. The menu was pretty straight forward phew, as I often got no idea what goes in restaurant menus! Potter's Garden offers breakfast, savoury pancake, pasta, burgers and other homey food.

There is a little flower/herb garden right next to the restaurant to take a look while you wait for your food. Hence the name Garden Restaurant. I know my mum would love this place, she is one plant freak lol.

The food was decent, although not excellent. Potter's Garden offers a comfy dining experience and I rate it 6/10.

Atlantic Express @ Sea Point

Cosy & Yummy.Atlantic Express Train

Eating on a train

Cosy dining space

Shrimp Salad

Fillet Steak Burger

Mixed Grill

Pancake with Ice Cream

My Sunday family + family friends supper was in this little cosy train in Sea Point and it was great. I have passed the train so many times and never thought of trying it. Little did I know, the train got amazing food to offer.

The space is cosy just like how you would expect on the train. We had to sit separately because the biggest table can only accommodate 4 people. Note to self, not ideal for dinner parties.

The traditional wooden decor with an elegant touch offers a different experience for dining and to our pleasant surprise, the price of the food was very reasonable.

Perfect place for a casual breakfast, light meal and dessert. I would give it a 7,5/10.

What did you eat today?

Photo taken from Wynberg Community Chest Carnival, perfect for the blog isn't it?

Ever since the food blog idea came about, I am noticing a lot of more food related things around my daily life. Anything I see and hear then I thought "this can be a post!". I am enjoying noticing all the food related news and information around me. YUM. It doesn't have to be about the expensive gourmet food but street food, comfy food or even fast food. I would like to think of this blog as a food dairy. Whatever I ate.
